Halifax Minster has a long tradition of music making and includes choirs, the Harrison Organ, and an ever expanding concert programme. The Director of Music is Mr Christopher Brown, in a joint appointment with the Halifax Academy, where Chris is Head of Performance. He is supported by the Sub-Organist Graham Gribbin and Organist Emeritus Philip Tordoff.
The Minster Choir
The Minster Choir sings every Sunday during term time. Juniors rehearse 6.30pm – 7.30pm on a Tuesday, whilst adults rehearse on a Thursday 7.30pm – 8.30pm both in the Song School of the Minster. The Choir regularly performs both for television and radio, and we are always looking for new members.
The Minster Chamber Choir
The Minster Chamber Choir is for experienced singers who sing occasional services, and some concerts. The standard is high, and an ability to read music fast essential. Joint occasions with the Minster Choir and Brass make for an exciting performance, especially around Christmas and the Halifax Festival. New members always welcome.
The Friends of the Music organise weekly Organ recitals which take place each Thursday at 1pm.
The Minster hosts concerts throughout the year. Further information can be found in the Events section of the website, and enquiries about hiring the Minster for a concert or charity fundraising event should be made through the Minster Offices – 01422 355436 firstname.lastname@example.org
All enquiries with regard to Music should be made with Chris Brown, Director of Music – email@example.com
