Halifax Minster Education Programme aims to bring learning to life. Using the Minster as an inspirational resource, to develop and provide curriculum-linked trail, tours and workshops for children and young people that are exciting, engaging and experiential. We seek to play a part in the life of the Minster, and bear witness to the Minster as a Christian place of worship.
We will do this by:
- Making children and young people feel welcomed and accepted.
- Giving a high-level of service and care to the schools which visit.
- Supporting teachers in their work by offering a range of resources beyond the reach of most classrooms.
- Providing an Education Officer who, as a trained teacher, is responsible for the development and delivery of trails, tours and workshops.
- Recruiting experienced and committed volunteers to assist in the delivery of trails and workshops.
- Ensuring activities are linked with National Curriculum, QCDA and other frameworks including locally agreed syllabus for Religious Education.
- Offering trails, tours and workshops that adopt a participatory, hands-on, multi-sensory approach.
- Promoting inclusion to enable users to access learning regardless of age, gender, ability, race or religious background.
- Practising systems of evaluation and self-review to ensure we maintain a high standard.
- Preparing teachers before and after the visit by providing teaching points and idea’s for follow-up activities.
- Being sensitive to the life of the Minster and working in close association with clergy, and other members of staff.
- Showing users that the Minster is a living building and an important place for Christians.
- Showing users that the Minster is a place of heritage with a significant role in the community.
- Using the building to inspire awe and wonder and encourage curiosity and creativity amongst children and young people.
- Working in partnership with other bodies such as Calderdale Council.
