Key Stage 2 Themed RE Tours

A number of tours are available: -


Features of an Anglican Church (1 ½ hrs)

This tour is designed to give pupils an understanding of the important features of an Anglican place of worship. During the tour they will:

  • Look at the font and its medieval cover, talk about why it is near the door, why Anglican’s baptise children and how they name children.
  • Explore the pulpit and think about how Christians learn about their faith in church and at home.
  • Investigate and report back on the various altars in the Minster and think about why there are so many, what they are used for, what symbols they feature.
  • Explore the symbols and stories told in the art work of the Minster.

This tour is designed around KS2 ‘Sacred Spaces’ and ‘Starting out’ units of the Calderdale Locally Agreed RE Syllabus.

Topics covered: RE, Art, Technology

Pupils and staff are welcome to stay longer in the Minster to do other activities related to the visit.

 

Right and Wrong Workshop (2 hrs)

This workshop is designed to enable pupils to explore their differing beliefs and opinions in an environment outside the classroom.  It will feature:

  • Listening skills
  • Role play
  • Debate around contemporary topics
  • Christian and Jewish teaching’s on right and wrong
  • Reflection on own beliefs

Please discuss this workshop with the Minster Education Officer so that it can be tailored to the needs of your class/school.

This workshop is designed around Lower Key Stage 2 ‘Right and Wrong’ unit of the Calderdale Locally Agreed RE Syllabus.

Topics covered: RE, Literacy, SEAL

Pupils and staff are welcome to stay longer in the Minster to do other activities related to the visit.

 

Follow my Leader (2 hrs)

The life of Jesus in 2 hrs!  This trail is lead by Susan, one of Jesus’ disciples.  Pupils will be lead on an interactive experience of the life of Jesus.  They will listen to stories from his life, act out key events, have the chance to ask questions of Susan and take the part of key figures in the story. The trail will include:

  • Music
  • Dressing up
  • Food
  • Discussion
  • Handling artefacts
  • Map drawing

This trail is designed to fit in with Upper Key Stage 2 ‘Follow my Leader’ unit of the Calderdale Locally Agreed RE Syllabus.

Topics covered: RE, Music, Geography

Pupils and staff are welcome to stay longer in the Minster to do other activities related to the visit.

Afternoon visit:  12.30-2.30
