A number of visits are available for Primary Schools.

The following is a brief description of the visists/workshops -

Special Workshops September 2011 – May 2012

Technology Workshops

Two hours of workshops where pupils are given an insight into how the technology of an organ works. Pupils make instruments.

A Trip through History

Two hours of time travel where pupils are given the chance to explore 1525, 1766, 1929 from the perspective of the organ, its music and dance.

Music and Singing through Time

Two hours of discovering the different musical styles of 1525, 1766, and 1929, and learning the songs both sacred and folk of the time.

KS1 RE Themed Tours

Animal Safari at Halifax Minster (1 ½ hrs)

The Animal Safari offers an opportunity for children to think about the Christian creation story and about how animals play an important part in our lives.

A Special Place (2 hrs)

This is a multi-sensory tour designed to give pupils the chance to experience a church as a place of worship as well as learning about the different parts of the church used for worship.

Special Seasons (2 hrs)

This is a flexible tour which can run on one or two of the following themes: Advent and Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost. Pupils will explore the Biblical stories behind the festival, rituals, and symbols important to festival, liturgical colours, music, and food.

KS2 RE Themed Tours

Features of an Anglican Church (1 ½ hrs)

This tour is designed to give pupils an understanding of the important features of an Anglican place of worship. During their time they play detectives as they explore aspects of the Minster.

Right and Wrong Workshop (2 hrs)

This workshop is designed to enable pupils to explore their differing beliefs and opinions in an environment outside the classroom. It includes: listening skills, role play, debate around contemporary topics, Christian and Jewish teaching’s on right and wrong, reflection on own beliefs.

Follow my Leader (2 hrs)

The life of Jesus in 2 hrs! This trail is lead by Susan, one of Jesus’ disciples. Pupils will be lead on an interactive experience of the life of Jesus. They will listen to stories from his life, act out key events, have the chance to ask questions of his followers and take the part of key figures in the story.

KS2 History Themed Tours

Monastic Life and the Reformation (2hrs)

This trail gives pupils an opportunity to experience monastic life and understand aspects of the Reformation. Children will dress up as monks for the trail.

Life in Victorian Halifax – a child’s view (2hrs)

This trail gives an opportunity for children to experience a taste of life in Victorian Halifax. The children will dress up in Victorian clothes (mop caps and pinafores for girls, caps, collarless shirt and waistcoat for boys) for trail.

Train and bus: The Minster is a short walk from both Halifax Train Station and Bus Station.

Road: The Minster is accessible from major road including M62.
