Halifax Minster has a long tradition of music making and includes choirs, the Minster Brass group, the Harrison Organ, and an ever expanding concert programme. The Director of Music is Mr Christopher Brown, in a joint appointment with the Halifax Academy, where Chris is Head of Performance. He is supported by Philip Tordoff, who is Organist emeritus, and Hugh Singleton, the current Organ Scholar. The Music Vision Group is chaired by Jean Clarke, and drives the Music Vision for the Minster forward in partnership with the Minster Council, and the Friends of the Music. The Minster Choir The Minster Choir sings every Sunday during term time. Juniors rehearse 6.30pm – 7.30pm on a Tuesday, whilst adults rehearse on a Thursday 7.30pm – 8.30pm both in the Song School of the Minster. The Choir regularly performs both for television and radio, and we are always looking for new members. The Minster Chamber Choir The Minster Chamber Choir is for experienced singers who sing occasional services, and some concerts. The standard is high, and an ability to read music fast essential. Joint occasions with the Minster Choir and Brass make for an exciting performance, especially around Christmas and the Halifax Festival. New members always welcome. The Minster Brass Group This Quintet regularly performs at the Minster, both during special services and at concerts. They are available for hire via their website www.minsterbrass.co.uk The Friends of the Music organise weekly Organ recitals which take place each Thursday at 1pm. We are currently housing two organs from the Early English Organ Project, which contain pieces of pre reformation organs within them. They are built in the style that would have been found in 1525. Concert Programme The Minster hosts concerts throughout the year.
