Halifax Minster wishes to appoint an Organ Scholar jointly with St. Michael’s Mytholmroyd. The Organ Scholar will act as assistant to the Director of Music and Organist Emeritus at the Minster; and Direct/accompany the choir of St. Michael’s approx 4-6 days per month.

The Minster choir and junior choir rehearse once per week, and sing Eucharist and Choral Evensong on Sundays. There is also a chamber choir and a resident brass group who perform at concerts and occasional services.

The Minster occupies an increasingly prominent role in the Region, and recent special services have included visits from the Archbishop of York and a live television broadcast. There are weekly organ recitals and a busy concert schedule. The Halifax Organ Academy was formally launched in September 2011 and the Early English Organ Project instruments recently began a 9 month residency.

• £2,400 - £3,100 per annum depending on duties undertaken, plus possibility of occasional fees/travel expenses
• Free organ lessons at the Minster, and guidance in all areas of the role
• 4 manual Harrison & Harrison at the Minster and good 3 manual instrument at St Michael’s
• Recital and conducting opportunities
• Opportunities for the right candidate to be involved with planning music and choir training

This appointment would suit a candidate preparing for an Oxbridge scholarship, a gap year student or an undergraduate/postgraduate student who wishes to develop skills in church music. The scholarship is also open to young professionals wishing to develop their careers. The post is subject to CRB checks.
