The beginning of Lent.

Ash Wednesday 22nd February Special services at 12.30pm and 7.30pm.

There is a whole Lent programme currently being planned with Lent Groups meeting on a Tuesday morning at 11am and on a Sunday after Evensong at 5pm.

There will be Lent books to buy in the Minster shop - spiritual nourishment.

The choir will sing Compline (Night Prayer) every Thursday at 8.45pm - the service will last about 20 minutes.

Lent Books and Lent Courses

We have available in the Minster Shop some books which may be be helpful for Lent. If you fill in the form a copy will be ordered for you and will be with you for Ash Wednesday.

During Lent there will be a 5 part course held in the Minster and will run on Tuesdays from 11.00am – 12.15pm, ending in time for the Eucharist at 12.30pm and on Sundays from 4.45 – 6.00pm – following on from Evensong.   The Course will be following a course entitled: “ Handing on the Torch” - sacred words for a secular world.

Session 1 – A Christian Country?

Session 2 – A Secular Society?

Session 3 – A Beleaguered Church?

Session 4 – Competing Creeds?

Session 5 – Handing on the Torch

All participants will need a booklet which provides preparation for each session At the beginning of each session we hear a short input from a selection of people who have recorded material for the course and then discussion follows on a series of questions outlined in the booklet.

Copies of the course booklet are in the Minster Shop; please have a look and sign up for the course and a course booklet will be ordered for you. Please signify whether you will be attending the Tuesday or the Sunday group.

The Lecturer (Reverend Peter Baldwin) will be organising this course together with others.
