Each year Halifax Minster has the immense privilege to host a number of weddings. The best way to prepare couples for their wedding day is to do it in the company of others.
Twice a year the Minster hosts a Wedding Breakfast, for all those who are getting married in the Minster in the next six months. The Mothers' Union, the Christian organization whose aim is to support marriage and family life, provides hot croissants and coffee as the couples share food and get to know each other. Then there is a tour of the wonderful historical grade 1 listed building in which their wedding is to be conducted. Sometimes there is a quiz to find out how much each couples knows about their partner, which always causes much laughter when they share their answers! Time is then spent exploring what the Wedding Service looks like, how to begin choosing music, hymns, readings, and understanding that it is a legal ceremony as well as a religious occasion. This is followed by a discussion about how to make a strong marriage, and why so many relationships seem to fail. Then there is a chance to meet the person who will take the service, talk to the flower arrangers, the Director of Music, as the couple begin to make some of the decisions they need to make to make it the most important day of their lives. The next one is to be held on 4th February, pictures to follow.
